Jacob Hamblin's home. Jacob Hamblin was the first Mission President in St. George (I think) and he was also very instrumental in keeping the indians in a peaceful mood.
The first jail in St. George. Unfortunately, the city or the church sees no need to preserve this building and it currently sits in the middle of a small shopping district and is being "improved" to serve as yet another small shop.
Our hike on the East Rim of Zion's National Park.
I think this is Angel's Landing - not part of our hike this time, but we are going back in the fall to do this and The Narrows. Can't wait.
Kolob Canyon sits just in the northwest corner of Zion's National Park. It was my favorite part of the park. When we go back in the fall, we are planning some fun hikes in this canyon too.
That's us hiking in a bit of snow in Kolob Canyon.
My old stomping grounds. Jacob Lake, where I worked, was named after Jacob Hamblin. He took great strides in sharing the gospel with the Hopi and Navajo tribes. You should of told us you were so close. We would have come up to see you guys. Glad you had a great weekend.

ReplyDeleteFunny, I have been reading the biography of Jacob Hamblin. I haven't been able to remember what his home looked like, although I have been past it hundreds of times, so thanks for the pic. Jacob was an amazing man. His history is so interesting.
ReplyDeleteWow, beautiful photos of the temple. I think St. George is so pretty and double gorgeous in the fall. Enjoyed seeing your family having fun!
ReplyDeleteOur group got started kind of on a whim and it has been going on now for probably 8 years. It was Michelle Simpson, Lanette, Connie and me and now Maureen has taken Michelle spot. The only one that really got it with the weight loss was Lanette but the rest of us are loving the mental health at least.
